First off let me just explain that I taped a giant yellow paper to Cali's backpack with a picture of a bus on it and in very bold black letters wrote the bus number of the bus she would be riding. My plan is full proof, all of my kids are taken care of.
Around 3:45 I give Angie a call to see how Cali liked riding the bus. Well, I could instantly sense a bit of panic in Angie's voice. She then tells me that Cali didn't get off the bus.
Me: "What do you mean she didn't get OFF the bus?!"
Angie: "The school said they put her ON the bus, but Emma never saw her. Emma thinks that maybe Cali was at the back of the bus and they didn't see each other. So Cali didn't know when to get off."
Me: "So does anyone know exactly where my daughter is and who she is with?"
Angie: "Not yet, I'll call you back."
.....................I then proceed to have about the longest 10 minutes of my life..............
Angie: "Ok, so they have found Cali. They put her on the wrong bus."
Me: "Are you FREAKING kidding me? How did they put her on the wrong bus, I wrote it on her backpack?"
Angie: "The bus driver of the other bus said he would drive her out here to my house."
Me: "So your telling me that my five year old daughter is alone on a bus with a man."
This is when you start praying that the man that has your daughter is a nice man, not a freak. Please tell me that this is not going to turn into some episode of dateline or something......
So another very long 10 minutes later I get the word that Cali is fine and that she was dropped off at Angie's house. After I got home and talked to Cali, she told me she was scared for a minute, but when the bus driver told her he was taking her to Angie's house she was fine. The bus driver then told Angie that Cali just chatted up a storm with him. Telling him all about her three brothers. Thank goodness that the bus driver was a nice guy and took good care of her without managing to freak her out.
Can someone tell me how the school is able to put a kindergartner on any old bus they please? The kindergartners are walked directly to the buses before school gets out and put on their buses before any other kids are around. How did nobody see the huge YELLOW sign on her back with a bus number that wasn't even close to the bus they put her on?
I think you must just have bad bus luck. Remember in Jr. High when you were a cripple and we were running/hobbling to catch the bus and the lame driver left you in the dust, so you ended up having to get on a different bus? It must be a family curse.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie for bringing up such a beautiful memory for everyone to read. HAHA, Remember how I got cripple when someone jumped out of the bus and landed on me. Good times!
